The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) will open and begin processing the last round of payments of Covid-19 Temporary Employer-Employee Relief Scheme Benefits (Covid-19 TERS) from Monday 23 November 2020 closing at the end of December.
This announcement follows an address that was made by President Cyril Ramaphosa where he said that the Covid-19 TERS benefits would be extended by another month to 15 October 2020.
“The receipt of Covid-19 TERS applications for the 16 September 2020 to 15 October 2020 will close on 31 December, and no further applications shall be accepted beyond that date,” the UIF said.
According to UIF, the application process for the latest payments of UIF remains the same and claims must be lodged via the online portal here.
“As with previous claim processes, to apply in the new period, employers are required to upload similar documentation that includes: signed approval or acceptance letter, bank confirmation letter, proof of payment to employees, and refund to the UIF – if applicable.
“In keeping with strict governance principles, we will still subject payments to bank verification before releasing the funds into the applicant’s accounts.” UIF commissioner Marsha Bronkhorst said.
The Covid 19 Ters relief scheme was set to assist all employees who have lost income due to regulations limiting economic activity because of Coronavirus as long as those employees had been contributing to UIF payments.
The relief scheme is paid out to both South Africans and foreign nationals with proper documentation and have been contributing to UIF. R52 has been paid out so far since March 2020.
