WhatsApp recently added a couple of really cool features. The one I’ve been anticipating the most is Dark mode. This might sound like old news since most mobile operating systems have had it for the better part of 2020. The exciting thing is that it is now officially available for WhatsApp Web.
Dark mode is essential for those of us who spend most of their waking hours in front of a screen. This feature has been available for quite some time now but required a tweak in the web page’s source code, which for the less tech-savvy wasn’t an ideal solution. One of its downsides was that you would have to do the same modification every time you opened the page.
In addition to the dark mode, WhatsApp Web also got a minor facelift, with few alterations to its UI, which might go unnoticed by most, but still, a pleasure to see. Maybe Apple could take a hint:
“If it ain’t broke, and you still feel the itch to fix it, at least be tenuous about it”
Other tidbits set to come are an animated sticker feature, the ability to add and share contacts as a QR code, and some improvements to Group Video calls. KaiOS also has support for WhatsApp statuses, finally! Some of these features are available as of now, but the Facebook-owned app will be slowly rolling out these new features to users. You’ll hear more about them here when we finally get our hands on them.
