Before you ask your girlfriend or boyfriend why you can’t see their last seen, check downdetector or Twitter trends first and maybe you might actually not make them a little upset or embarrass yourself. I wish I did that before I did the opposite of what I just said.
WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging app that is owned by Facebook has been affected by some sort of a Privacy Settings bug which has caused the App to stop displaying the ‘Last Seen’ online status while also not displaying a user’s on the other side of the line.
Thousands if not millions of users across the globe have taken to a popular platform known as Downdetector to voice out their frustrations and the term,’ WhatsApp’ is currently trending on Twitter with over 900K tweets during the last hour.
According to the independent monitor Down Detector, a huge spike of problems was recorded shortly before 5pm.
The majority of these are around the last seen feature, while 24% said they are having connection problems.
Users said they cannot see when their contacts were last online, and are unable to adjust their security settings.
A map on the Down Detector website says that issues are being reported around the world, but with Europe appearing to be the epicentre.
WhatsApp has not released a statement regarding the current issue with the App
