UIF payments for April were made although most foreigners are still reporting that they have not yet received anything from the Unemployment Insurance Fund and now the labour department is testing an updated online application system for May payments.
Since South Africa got into level 4 of the lockdown, it means some businesses have now opened. Due to this, UIF expects applications for the month of May to be lower than April’s payouts. A total of 2.6 Million workers were paid to the value of approximately R14.5 Billion from 204,177 valid claims from employers.
Due to these changes resulting from other businesses reopening, UIF has had to reconfigure their system so as to cater to these changes for the month of May. It is reported that testing of the updated system is already underway and being finalised during this weekend because it is expected to be opened as early as next week.
Here are the changes to the UIF TERS online Portal
- First time application to register via uifecc.labour.gov.za portal and follow the rest of the steps.
- Returning employers submitting claims for May will be expected to submit proof of payment to employees for the payments made in April 2020.
- UIF will be paid directly into employees’ bank accounts, employers are still expected to apply on behalf of their employees.
- Employers will still receive the payment breakdown from UIF as confirmation of payment to employees.
Some of these changes come after there have been reports that some employers were not paying their employees the money released to them by UIF. The updated system has also been reconfigured to make it possible to edit banking details for those employees whose payments were declined due to bank verification or branch code errors.
