Android users have had the opportunity to use their phones in dark mode for a longer time than iPhone or generally iOS users because well, Apple is rarely influenced by peer pressure – No pun intended.

However, if you did not know already, you can now activate Dark Mode on your iPhone and not specifically targeting a certain app like activating it in Instagram but for the entire device affecting every part of your iPhone with a better look.

Why should I use my phone in Dark Mode anyways?

The most commonly known and scientific advantage of the dark mode is that it saves energy consumption on devices with OLED or AMOLED displays. On OLED panels, each pixel is individually lit. When the background is white, all the pixels are turned on and the display demands more power. When pixels are black or even dark grey, as is the case in dark mode, the display’s power requirements are naturally lowered.

This power-saving ability of dark mode is limited to OLED screens, so phones, monitors, and laptops with LCD displays don’t really benefit from it.

Here is the outline:

  1. It helps to save battery on phones with AMOLED Display.
  2. It looks cool and gives a new and fresh overall look.
  3. Doesn’t strain your eyes too much at night.

How to activate Dark Mode on iPhone.

With the update from iOS 13, Apple introduced Dark Mode that affects the entire system for the first time. Activating the feature is easier through a couple of ways like asking Siri do it for you, playing around with the brightness bar or going traditional through the settings panel.

However, even when these sound simple, there is always an even simpler way which I have bumped into across the interwebs and tried it myself.

Apparently, Apple tile for Dark Mode within the Control Center which you can just swipe and tap with ease. To set up, follow the simple steps below.

  • Head to settings
  • Control Center
  • Customize Controls
  • Tap the (+) next to Dark Mode

Boom, your phone is now cooler than your friend’s – pun intended.

What if I want to go back to the Light Mode?

Simple, the dark mode tile will now be displaying among other tiles the next time you go back to Control Center.  This means you can now just tap it to switch between the dark and light mode.
